DECEMBER 2025 | The Official Newsletter of Ivy Global School

This month, we are celebrating Chế Nguyễn Hạ An (Ann, Grade 10), an active member and now the newly elected President of the IGS Student Council for the 2025–2026 term. Her nomination reflects her remarkable dedication, her dynamic presence in every activity, and her consistent support for fellow Council members. Over time, Hạ An has grown into a dependable and inspiring young leader—earning the trust of both peers and mentors as she steps into this new chapter.

Not only does Hạ An contribute wholeheartedly to Council projects, but she also engages in many other meaningful initiatives. One of her latest endeavors is her trip to Japan with the Design for Change organization, an international children’s movement where young people identify problems, design solutions, and initiate projects for a more desirable future. Her five-day journey to Japan was a highlight of international cooperation and cross-cultural exchange, where children from around the world came together to share their work, learn from one another through workshops and talkshows, and strengthen the global DFC community. The experience encouraged young participants to believe in their ability to create change with the spirit of “I CAN.”

CHARACTER OF THE MONTH

This year, Hạ An and the DFC Global Student Council are working on the RISE Initiative—a movement against bullying. It is a global, virtual, non-judgmental platform that connects children across countries, giving them space to express their thoughts and emotions regarding one of today’s most prevalent issues: mental wellbeing, with a focus on bullying. Each meeting serves as a safe zone for students to share through storytelling, journaling, or artistic expression. The initiative aims to help teenagers navigate their mental struggles in a supportive, comfortable environment, embodying the shared DFC and IGS vision of empowering young people to be the change for a brighter future.

Through each of her actions and choices, Ha An reminds us that ‘Be the Change’ is not just a message—it is a way for each of us to create meaningful and beautiful shifts within our communities.

As the flood season arrives, the news headlines often carry the sobering images: Houses suddenly become temporary shelters. Schools pause, and communities are seen managing and adapting, trying to stay above the turbulent waters.

This is a time when our people must brace themselves and rely on sheer will to live with the flood, or more broadly, overcome the sudden storms that life throws their way. Yet, it is in these very tough moments that the Vietnamese spirit of "mutual aid" and resilience shines brightest.

Inspired by the desire to "share the load" of these ongoing challenges, the IGS Student Council has launched the charity project "ABOVE THE WAVES".

This project is driven by our core belief that true global citizenship is rooted in compassion and action. The project aims to send essential supplies and, critically, spiritual and emotional upliftment to the severely affected regions.

This is not just about material sharing; it is a powerful affirmation of our national unity: When facing the storm, we are never alone. Through our upcoming series of fundraising activities, the Student Council intends to amplify our core message: "Holding hands, we stand firm on the crest of the wave."

We warmly invite the entire IGS community to "lend a hand" and join this meaningful journey!

The Student Council would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the IGS School, the AmCham organizing committee, and all event guests who visited, supported, and encouraged our students throughout the day.

We look forward to your continued companionship and generosity as the project moves forward. 💛🌊

CULTURE WINDOW

ChangeMaker Story

When we hear the name Saint Nicholas, most of us immediately think of Santa Claus, the jolly figure in a red suit who brings gifts to children each Christmas Eve. But behind this modern image lies a real historical figure whose life of generosity and compassion reshaped what kindness means during the holiday season. Saint Nicholas was not just a giver; he was a true changemaker whose influence still touches the world today.

Nicholas was raised in a household that valued compassion and religion. He was born in a little hamlet close to the Mediterranean Sea in the third century. He inherited his parents’ wealth when they passed away while he was young, and he made an incredible decision. Nicholas donated the fortune to those in need rather than hoarding it for himself. He gained notoriety for aiding the underprivileged, saving orphaned children, and offering support to families without anyone to turn to. His generosity was noteworthy, but so was the way he gave in silence and without expecting anything in return.

One of the most famous stories tells of a poor father who had no money to help his daughters. Under the cover of night, Nicholas slipped bags of gold through the window so the family could stand on their feet again. He didn’t seek praise or recognition; he simply wanted to change someone's life for the better. These small acts of kindness created ripples that spread far beyond his lifetime.

In the end, Saint Nicholas is more than a legendary figure who brings gifts during Christmas; he is a timeless symbol of generosity, compassion, and hope. His actions have inspired centuries of giving. Thanks to him, Christmas has grown into a season where people look beyond themselves and choose to care for one another. Today, we carry his legacy each time we share what we have, support someone in need, or simply spread joy without expecting anything in return.

Saint Nicholas proves that even the smallest acts of kindness can create change that lasts for centuries. His generosity transformed not only the lives of the people he helped but also the way the world understands the meaning of giving. In the end, his life serves as a reminder that everyone, regardless of background, has the capacity to truly effect change.
